A condition which involves cravings for alcohol, despite being aware of the ill-effects and difficulties accompanied with its usage. It is generally accompanied by an inability to limit the extent of one’s drinking. This may take the form of “binge-drinking”, drinking a lot in a short period of time and then abstaining for some time, or drinking on a regular, consistent basis.

· Physical dependence, including “withdrawal symptoms” following a period of heavy drinking. These symptoms include nausea, perspiration, shakiness.
