Autism is a disability which affects the way a person communicates and relates to others. It ranges greatly in terms of degree of severity form mild symptoms, such as in Aspergers Syndrome, to severe. As well as difficulties with verbal and non-verbal communication, sufferers of Autism also experience difficulty with developing imagination.
The exact causes of Autism have not yet been fully established, although research shows that it can occur due to a variety of conditions affecting brain development, which occur before, after or during birth.
These include an inability to express emotions; Poor attention span; Appearing aloof and indifferent; Difficulty with social relations; Inability to understand facial expressions or gestures; Talking “at” people, rather than with them.
