The body is made up of many types of cells that grow and divide to produce more cells when the body needs them in order to keep the body healthy. Occasionally, however, cells keep dividing when new cells are not needed. These extra cells form a mass of tissue called a growth or tumour. When this occurs in the breast, it is known as breast cancer.
Often there are no visible signs of breast cancer or signs that can be felt. Sometimes, however, there are signs, most commonly a lump, an area of thickening, or a dimple in the breast. Other signs include breast swelling and redness or an enlarged underarm lymph node.
These signs, however, are not conclusive of breast cancer, for example, most breast lumps turn out to be benign (not cancerous).
If you are concerned about experiencing any of these symptoms, you should consult your doctor immediately. Physical examination of the breast is one way to find breast cancer.
Chemotherapy is a common method of treatment. However, alternative remedies and therapies can assist in alleviating the symptoms of breast cancer.
