Homeopathy

What is Homeopathy?

Although the principle behind homeopathy was first described by Hippocrates 2,500 years ago, homeopathy as we know it today has been used for the past 200 years. It was developed as a system of medicine by a brilliant german physician called Samuel Hahnemann.
The word homeopathy comes from the greek and means similar suffering. This refers to the central philosophy that a substance that can produce symptoms in a healthy person, can cure those symptoms in a person who is ill.

How does Homeopathy work?

The most fundamental rule of homeopathy is The Law of Similars. Put simply it means like cures like. Homeopaths record the totality of a person's symptoms and individual characteristics and then match this picture to a substance that is able to produce similar symptoms in a healthy person. For example, a homeopathically prepared coffee (coffea tosta) may be used to treat certain types of sleeplessness. Using The Law of the Minimum Dose very, very tiny doses of the substances are given to stimulate the body's own amazing natural healing ability.

What conditions can Homeopathy treat?

Studies show that homeopathy can be used to treat many illnesses, although some doctors believe it to be a placebo.

Safety Issues

Some homeopathic tablets and pills have a lactose base. If you're dairy sensitive you should request fructose-based remedies instead. Also a temporary increase in severity of symptoms is thought to be a normal part of the cure. However, make sure you report any unusual change in symptoms promptly to your practitioner.
