The world of alternative and complementary medicine is a complex environment that consists of many different facets. Broadly speaking they may be divided into four key areas:
Complete Healing Systems provide a structure of theory, diagnosis and treatment. Some of these systems are ancient and come from far afield. Others are newer and evolve from various backgrounds. Among the most widespread in the western world are Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Naturopathy and Homeopathy.
Diagnostic techniques claim to be able to identify the cause of the problem and suggest remedies. These include Kinesiology (allergy detecting) and Iridology (examination of the eyes for telltale signs of other problems).
Complementary therapies are well known in the west and include Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Reiki, and many others. These therapies do not offer complete diagnosis but are widely known to be beneficial.
Self-help measures promote the individual to work with their own body. These include Yoga, diet and nutrition, relaxation exercises and meditation.
This section includes all of these therapies and many more. Each therapy has links to the health conditions that it can diagnose, treat or alleviate. Links to therapists who specialise in these areas can also be found.
